Why do you want to study the social and cultural history of modern Japan right now？

I was born in a Japanese household so I have been around many social and cultural things in Japan. I am very familiar with pop culture of modern Japan but I have not looked deeply into the social and cultural history of Japan. By studying this material, I will be able to see the bigger picture of how Japan turned into the country it is today.
